How Much Water Should You Really Be Drinking?

We all know we should be drinking enough water. However, do we really know how much water we’re actually supposed to be drinking?

This article will help guide you as to how many glasses of alkaline H2O you ideally need to be drinking on a daily basis.

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Do you work out?

When you workout, you naturally sweat more than if you’re sedentary. Depending on the type of physical activity you do, you’ll need to add more or less. For any cardio, high-intensity or running activity, generally you’ll need more water than fitness such as yoga, walking or stretching.

We recommend filling up your sports bottle from your Dafi Alkaline Glass Pitcher to carry along with you when working out, to ensure you’re staying hydrated.

2. Where do you live?

Climate and varying temperatures will greatly affect how much water one needs to be drinking. Deserts, sunny locations and dry climates tend to require more water than more neutral zones.

Something to note, the change in seasons can affect your hydration levels as well. Take in to mind winter’s dry air heat (link to winter blog post on heat/staying hydrated), or if it’s summer and the outdoor temperatures has your sweating more than usual.

3. Do you naturally “sweat” more than others?

This is an individually unique character trait for us all. Some naturally sweat even if we’re driving the car, while others of us barely break a sweat when we’re running a marathon.

Take note how much you as an individual sweat compared to those around you and take that observation into account when coming up with your own numbers of water cups.

4. How much coffee or caffeinated beverages do you drink a day?

Coffees, green teas, or other caffeinated beverages are diuretics and will naturally do the opposite of what we’re trying to achieve — to hydrate the body.

For each cup of caffeine, try to balance that out with at least one cup of alkaline water, if not more. While that may seem like a lot of liquids, your body will balance itself out naturally.

5. How many fruits and veggies do you eat a day?

Eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables daily can help to increase your hydration levels. Because most produce are largely made up of water, this helps to increase your water count each serving.

Still, don’t count on getting your daily water tally just from food. Remember, water has zero calories, and food — no matter how healthy it is — can start to add up, including sugar counts.

Overall, we recommend at Dafi to get in at least 8 8-ounces of alkaline filtered water as a base quantity. From there, the above questions will help you to observe if you need more or less.
